Levi Marks
I am an economist at the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.
My independent research explores a variety of issues at the intersection of energy and environmental economics. Much of my recent work focuses on the efficient operation of natural gas markets in the context of the resource's increasing importance for the transition to sustainable energy. My job market paper, “The Abatement Cost of Methane Emissions from Natural Gas Production,” is one of the first economic explorations of the emerging issue of methane emissions from the natural gas supply chain.
During my time as a Ph.D. student at UC Santa Barbara, I had the opportunity to work with environmental organizations that share my interest in forward-looking natural gas policy. In particular, I collaborated with Environmental Defense Fund on a research project investigating market power in the US gas transportation industry, and I worked with the David Suzuki Foundation on a project to explore the implications of pricing methane emissions from the oil and gas industry in British Columbia.
